In the usual course of business, document destruction is performed to comply with a records retention policy. Documents and data stored electronically may need to be destroyed (not merely discarded) when they are past their useful life. A policy needs to be in place for document retention and destruction. A data destruction policy can help protect the privacy of data, identity theft and theft of bank account information, credit card information and other data.
